American Idol winner
Ruben Studdard,
Omicron Delta (Alabama A&M) ’97, took time from his tour schedule yesterday to visit the Fraternity’s National Headquarters in Evansville, Indiana. Brother Studdard is currently touring with the Tony Award-winning
Ain’t Misbehavin’, which played last night in Evansville.
Ruben came to the office around 2 p.m. and met the National Headquarters staff. Ryan Ripperton, executive director, and Dan Krueger, director of alumni engagement, gave Ruben a tour of both the main office and the historical archives at Lyrecrest North. Ruben shared some stories about his experience in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia while a student at Alabama A&M University, including many fond memories of interactions with other chapters in the province and with the province governor at the time, the late
Dr. Jim Patrenos,
Epsilon Theta (Roosevelt) ’50. He spoke of the ongoing connection he has with brothers he got to know while in school, and also his memories and appreciation for the beauty and power of the Fraternity’s Ritual.
Ruben autographed copies of each of his three albums for the Fraternity’s archives, and then recorded a short message to the brothers for the
December 2008 edition of The Leadership Loop podcast, which was released today.
Hear Ruben talk about his experience performing in
Ain't Misbehavin' during his
recent interview with CNN.
The visit was arranged by Dan Krueger, director of alumni engagement. The visit was a true honor for the National Headquarters staff -- come back soon, Ruben!
