National President John Alan Mongiovi, Upsilon Psi (South Florida) '94, and National Historian Bruce E. Gbur, Beta Phi (Baldwin-Wallace) '74, today issued an update to the American Music Challenge. This contest seeks to encourage enthusiastic pursuit of the Fraternity's commitment to advancing music in America.

Below is the text of the update regarding the American Music Challenge. To access the fillable PDF application form, please click here PDF.

Dear Brothers:

For 111 years Sinfonia has advanced the cause of American music. To encourage continued enthusiasm in pursuit of our noble Object, last semester we issued the AMERICAN MUSIC CHALLENGE.

Last semester we announced that the four chapters that perform the most American music in the 2009 - 2010 school year will receive cash prizes. I’m thrilled to announce that a second anonymous donor has generously enabled us to double the prize amounts! This year’s AMERICAN MUSIC CHALLENGE winners will receive cash prizes in the amounts of $800 $600, $400, and $200.

Award money has been donated by these generous Brothers in support of the advancement of music in America and the Fraternity’s goal of heightened musical focus. It is our hope that Sinfonia’s strongest chapters in music will use these funds to build upon their successes and become centers for the promotion of the best in American music on their campuses, in their communities, and in the nation.

To take the challenge, simply save documentation of all American music performed by your chapter or collegiate members of your chapter during the 2009 – 2010 school year, and submit it with the signed Application Form no later than May 31, 2010. See the attached form for eligibility requirements and instructions.

We hope that all brothers and chapters will take this opportunity with enthusiasm to advance our noble Sinfonian ideal to voice the music of our land.

Fraternally,

John Alan Mongiovi
National President

Dr. Bruce E. Gbur
National Historian
