Growing our Commitment
As part of our commitment to promoting the Object of Phi Mu Alpha, we have made a conscious effort to increase the Fraternity’s impact in the Evansville community – the home of our National Headquarters. Through our national philanthropy, the Mills Music Mission, nearly every chapter that visits the headquarters for a retreat shares the power of music with those in need by visiting our nearly 30 partner hospitals, assisted living facilities and nursing homes in the Evansville area.
We have also become a sponsor of the Evansville Central High School – Central Marching Band Invitational, an event that brings nearly 20 marching bands annually to the city. This invitational event provides students with the opportunity to perform in a competitive environment, gain confidence, and receive constructive feedback. The invitational also raises needed funds for the Central Instrumental Booster Club, which in turn go to finance and support the student musical activities of the school.
In addition to the expansion of the number of facilities that we visit on Mills Music Missions and our sponsorship of the Central Marching Band Invitational, we have taken great pride in increasing our support of DRUMS on the OHIO by becoming a co-presenting sponsor, alongside our friends at Band Shoppe. Our support of this show is an expanded commitment to our National Partnership with Drum Corps International. DRUMS on the OHIO brings in over 3,500 spectators annually to support 1,000+ performers – all while increasing traffic to the local Evansville shops, restaurants, and venues.
The Object of this Fraternity shall be for the development of the best and truest fraternal spirit; the mutual welfare and brotherhood of musical students; the advancement of music in America and a loyalty to the Alma Mater.
Volunteer Opportunities
Phi Mu Alpha is proud to help sponsor our hometown Drum Corps show here in Evansville, Indiana. Brothers will have the opportunity to volunteer during the event by aiding with ushering, handing out souvenir passports, and assisting with tear down while also getting the chance to watch the 6 World Class shows. Volunteers will need to arrive between 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. Those who volunteer will be provided with lodging, Wednesday dinner, and Thursday breakfast. Sign-up to volunteer soon as there are limited spots available!
About DRUMS on the OHIO
DRUMS on the OHIO has an extensive history dating to 1978, with many thanks to the Evansville Civitan Club. They sponsored not only the show but also the Evansville-based Imperial Guard Drum and Bugle Corps, which existed from 1980-1982. The Civitan-sponsored show ran for 30 years and took a brief hiatus. In 2013, members and friends of the F.J. Reitz Instrumental Music Boosters began producing the show, restoring the event to its former success, and attracting enthusiastic audiences of over 3,500 to Reitz Bowl in 2013 & 2014. DRUMS on the OHIO is once again a member of the Drum Corps International (DCI) Summer Tour and is the only DCI show within a 100-mile radius of Evansville.
