The Sound Machine of North Carolina Central University has recently named Brother Jovan Wilson as its Chief Music Arranger. Brother Wilson is a 2016 initiate of Sigma Kappa Chapter at Delaware State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in music and later served as Interim Director of Bands.
Wilson is current Director of Bands for the DFRC Blue and Gold All-Star Band Program and has previously served as the Director of Bands for the Early College High School in Dover, DE. His areas of professional expertise include instrumental music education, instrumental pedagogy, brass and woodwind techniques, composition, arranging, and instrumental conducting.
When asked how Phi Mu Alpha has had an impact on him as a person, both personally and professionally, Brother Wilson says;
“Phi Mu Alpha has given me so much more understanding about music’s impact on the world and how we can achieve love and support through melody and harmony. I’ve met so many wonderful brothers who have been nothing short of inspirational to me, and I wished for nothing more to follow in their footsteps of greatness. Phi Mu Alpha rings home to me the idea of being a Man of the Highest Type, and it is that level of excellence that drives me daily to be the best teacher and mentor possible for my students.”
Membership in Phi Mu Alpha is a lifelong commitment, and it teaches us musicianship and excellence, but above all, it is true “Brother in Music.” Congratulations on this new appointment, Brother. Best of luck!
